The Road of the Tōkaidō

From Edo to Kyoto, the Tōkaidō once traced the pulse of Japan.
Along its fifty-three stations, from the first step at Nihonbashi to the final crossing at Sanjō Ōhashi,
travelers moved through shifting landscapes, changing seasons, and quiet moments of reflection.
Lords, merchants, pilgrims… each journey was different, yet the path remained the same.
In the nineteenth century, Utagawa Hiroshige captured these fleeting scenes rain falling over distant villages,
silhouettes crossing bridges, Mount Fuji emerging in silence, transforming a road into a timeless experience.
Today, the journey continues.
The distance is unchanged.
Only its rhythm has evolved.
