UKIYO-E Horibe Yahei Kanemaru

Chūshingura — The Tale of the 47 Ronin

After their lord, Asano Naganori, was forced to commit seppuku following a conflict at the shogun’s court, his samurai were left masterless—ronin, stripped of status and purpose.
Led by Ōishi Kuranosuke, forty-seven of them chose a different path: not resignation, but loyalty beyond death. For nearly two years, they concealed their intentions, living in quiet patience to avoid suspicion.
On a winter night, they carried out their mission—storming the residence of Kira Yoshinaka, the man they held responsible, and avenging their lord with precision and resolve.
After fulfilling their duty, they surrendered, accepting their fate. Honored for their loyalty, they were granted the right to die as samurai.
A timeless story of loyalty, sacrifice, and honor—where justice is measured not by law alone, but by unwavering devotion.
